OCU research material to be taken to the International Space Station - Study on the Effect of Space Environment to Embryonic Stem Cells to Their Development
The research group of Professor Takashi Morita (Osaka City University Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Molecular Genetics) will have frozen embryonic stem cells of mice taken up to the International Space Station (ISS) to investigate the effects of space environment on embryonic stem cells of mammals.
The experiment is expected to provide important information on the effects that long-term stays in space might have on human beings.
The cells will be taken to the ISS on the SpaceX-2 flight in the beginning of March 2013.
For exact details on the experiment, please see the project fact sheet on the website of NASA.
